Hey Michael. I'm sorry to hear that you're running into issues getting a full node up and running. Let's see what we can do about that!
The broken links are really annoying, I agree. We recently changed our domain name from iotatoken.com to iota.org. We've been going through and updating links on all IOTA properties, but it looks like we missed a few. If you could let me know where you saw the incorrect Slack link, it would help us (and other developers) a ton!
In the meantime, here's the correct link to sign up for the IOTA Slack:
The lack of output from the wallet is pretty frustrating I'm not super familiar with the wallet (I work on the Python API library), but from what I know about how IOTA works, I have a few ideas as to what might be wrong.
At what point does the application crash? Are you able to see the login screen, or does it crash before that point?
Also, are you able to view the Server Log?
If that process crashes (for example, because no JRE is installed, or the installed version is too old), then that might explain why you're not seeing any errors. Could you double-check that you have Java installed on your computer?
If you're up for an experiment, we can try running the IRI node by itself first and see if we can get that working, then switch back to the wallet. That way, we can eliminate variables systematically.
Thanks for hanging in there! We'll get you up and running!
