First question- Where have you been for the last 8 years?
But welcome, it's a very exciting and fast moving technology/market. Firstly, I'd watch some videos on what all cryptocurrencies are trying to achieve (perhaps some Andreas antonopoulos YouTube videos). Then some videos on the design/architecture of bitcoin. Then Browse some iota topics on this forum and reddit to see why iota has a market bitcoin can never directly touch.
To get some bitcoin, find a bitcoin exchange that serves your country. In Australia, I use coinjar, or earn some bitcoin from someone offering to pay for services, or go to localbitcoins.
To get iota, YassinDex (on iota slack) is offering over the counter trades as escrow and has been very trustworthy to date. Exchanges are on standby for accepting iota, until it's given the all clear for a 'mass' userbase. Aka, this new technology can seamlessly handle a huge sudden influx of new, uninformed users.
Happy to provide more details or answer any more questions.
