As discussed extensively on the forum and on Slack, we are reverting back to manual peer discovery. As such, this is a mandatory upgrade for everyone.
How it works
As mentioned, there is no more automated peer discovery. What this means is that you have to manually find peers (5 - 7+ suggested) by asking people on Slack or the forum for their IP's. If you are running the GUI, you can easily add these nodes through
Edit Server Configuration.
It is very important to keep in mind that the current version has mutual tethering. What this means is that you and your neighbor need to have each other added to their local node for the tethering process to work. Therefore when you ask your neighbor for their node, give them yours as well so that you can add each other to your nodes. All nodes should be added using the same schema:
For those who run want to run the non-GUI, headless server version. Please download 1.0.6 here: http://188.8.131.52/IRI-1.0.6.jar
You can add more neighbors through the command line. please start your node in the following way:
sudo java -jar YOURPORT udp://NODE1:PORT udp://NODE2:PORT
Syncing with the Network
You should not delete your existing database for this. If you want to catch up to the most recent transactions faster, you can find the Foundation provided tangle download link here: https://mega.nz/#!iZ1ySLYL!kpBuyl0r_zG7cHU-bue-6ugb1sQZuIyIVyDbyjdfZ2w
Ways to find peers:
The only way to find peers is to obviously socialize. You have to ask people from the community for their node. Here are a few ways to find people willing to share their node info:
If you have any problems/difficulties. Ask on Slack or psot an issue on the forum or Github (https://github.com/iotaledger/wallet/issues).
1.0.6 is a pre-release in preparation of 1.0.7, which will help in recovering the network. Currently we are undergoing a multistage transitional phase. 1.0.7 will be released tomorrow and then we will go back to normal network state by the weekend, hopefully. After that we will do the stress test and continue as planned.
The peer discovery service will be released after 1.0.7. Lets socialize for now
